Hillsborough Advocates For Improved Transit

HIllsborough Advocates For Improved Transit is a grass-roots, not-for-profit corporation.

Our goal is to bring first class transit to Hillsborough County and Tampa. Our mission is to educate the public on the need for greatly improved transit so citizens will vote for a referendum to decide on methods of funding initiatives to implement these improvements.

There is a long history of opposition by officials in this county opposing reasonable steps
to this implementation.  Ad valorem taxes for transit operations have not been raised
since the time Hartline was created by legislative mandate.

In 1999  a committee of ninety-nine persons representing a wide variety of viewpoints and walks of life, was assembled to propose recommendations regarding and implementation to deal with transportation.  After all the hard work of the Committee of 99, the Board of County Commissioners chose to nix all of its proposals.

Last year 2003 a coalition lead by the Tampa Chamber came up with a plan for a referendum to fund transportation needs. Again the BOCC turned that down.

It is time again to bring together stakeholders to participate in the planning for the future needs of our community when even more people will live here in Hillsborough County.
